DSTV No Signal in Cape Town? Here's What's Usually Wrong

A sudden loss of DSTV signal is frustrating, but the cause is almost always one of a handful of common issues, several of which are worth checking before booking a technician.

Weather and wind

Cape Town's strong seasonal winds are a leading cause of dish misalignment, particularly in coastal and elevated suburbs. Even a small shift in dish angle can noticeably weaken or drop the signal.

Cabling and connector faults

Corroded connectors or damaged cabling, especially on older installations, are a common and often overlooked cause of intermittent or total signal loss.

LNB faults

The LNB, the component at the end of the dish arm that receives the satellite signal, can fail over time. This typically shows as a complete loss of signal rather than intermittent dropouts.

When to call a technician

If a DSTV system reset from your decoder settings doesn't resolve it, the issue is very likely a physical fault with the dish, cabling or LNB, which needs an on-site diagnosis. Our repairs and maintenance service covers exactly this. Contact us for a call-out.
